Original Medicare consists of the following:
Part A: Coverage for hospital, skilled nursing, and hospice care.
Part B: Coverage for medical services such as doctor visits, lab services, diagnostic, radiology, etc.
Original Medicare does not cover all costs and beneficiaries may be responsible for up to 20% coinsurance and/or copays and deductibles.
FAQsThese plans covers the “gaps” in Original Medicare, such as coinsurance and deductibles that are the responsibility of the beneficiary. However, Supplemental plans do not cover prescription drug costs or other ancillary benefits such as vision, dental and hearing.
FAQsThese plans offer an alternative to Original Medicare in an all-in-one plan which includes all benefits available under Original Medicare (A&B) and even some extra healthcare benefits. These plans can also include ancillary benefits not covered under Original such as dental, vision, hearing, and prescription drug coverage all in one plan. You pay copays for doctors, labs, hospitals, and other services.
FAQsMedicare requires that beneficiaries have prescription drug coverage. Since Medicare doesn't cover prescription drugs, beneficiaries who are on Original Medicare and have a Supplemental Insurance policy must also purchase a standalone Prescription Drug plan. These plans are issued by private insurance companies. Each plan uses a network of pharmacies and mail order service to cover prescription drugs. Since plans cover medications differently, it’s important that you confirm your medications are not only covered but at what copay cost to you.
